This article is a study into mythology in relation to the zodiac. It is relevant to religion as well but the author will focus on the mythological figures here.
The author has found that mythological figures and their stories relate to circular zodiac stories, where the characters found in ancient history have equivalents in the sky as constellations.
These figures also have been syncretized in different cultures, had different names, but were still for example the god of war and pestilence or underworld.
The underworld, with war gods and pestilence, hell if you wish, is the bottom part of our zodiac. Its in contrast with the good part of the zodiac of Fertility.
Its is the difference between spring/summer vs autumn/winter.
Lets start with making some statements containing information that is not known in our modern times as far as the author is aware. This is identifying mythological figures places in the zodiac.
- Apollo, is Ophiucius, wrestling python. (Ophiucius was Apollo’s son). Its diccult to say, but likely, that “he is also Orion, or in that part, Perseus” and the precursor to the St. George and the dragon or bellaphron vs Chimera As orion, besides is club, can also be having a bow. But these stories of the storm god fighting a snake have it’s foundation in the circular zodiac. https://theheavensdeclare.net/orion-the-archer/

- Medusa, the kneeler constellation, is the current Hercules constellation. Her children Chrysoar and Pegagus are orion an pegasus respectively when she gets beheaded at orion. Why does she gets beheaded? She dissapears from the sky as she is Orions opposite as the kneeler constellation.
- Artemis, the eastern fish constellation is the later in zodiac, Medusa A version of the lady of heaven/Potnia Theron, mistress of the animals is hidden next to Aquarius. In earlier cultures Innana/Ishtar. Her symbol the deer and sometimes the panter, is next to her as shown below. It is difficult to understand, but Medusa was a virgin still when she got raped by Poseidon Aquarius. Orion, the offspring of Medusa, is Orions son. Pegassus, a horse, linked to Poseidons horses. She is linked to the femine, to the moon as a moon godess. It was later Medusa, who “turned people into stone with her gaze” (made them sleep at night) as the sky turn the virgin “becomes Medusa”.
- The Dioscuri, who are also presented together as Gemini are the “sons of the songod” representing the Orion and Ophiucus , Hercules and apollo, silver and golden gate
- The sungod, as Leo, sitting exactly in the middle between Orion and Ophiucius, when Leo was summer solstice.
- Hercules / Orion is the torchbearer (Tedoforo), his club becomes a torch when the sun passes on it. He is named many things in ancient history, from Sah, Osiris, the greenman (at spring) Melqart, Hercules to even Jezus, but thats a longer story.
- The golden and silver key of the vatican as explained in the authors codex Dei article, relates also to these two places in heaven, but it also relates to sun (gold) and moon (silver) the day and night, spring/summer and winter/autumn in many links and meanings. heaven and underworld.
The reason Medusa is on the artemis temple of Corfu, something that is not known by archeologist, is because she (eastern fish, artemis, potnia thereon) gets raped as a virgin by Poseidon (Aquarius) then turns into Medusa in the underworld, a quarter of zodiac later, the aspect of the zodiac where the god of war “lives”, Nergal. where she then is the partner of, or in case of Apollo, Artemis is his sister.
Even our current “devil” is a version of the previous god of the underworld Nergal, or Ophiucius that was also known as Apollo. Its the story of “one brother killing the other” as the skies turn, found in Cain and able, Romulus and Remus and the Dioscuri / Ashvini twins of the sungod. They all can be attributed to the zodiac as much as the golden key and silver key of the Vatican is for the two heavenly gates at Ophiucus and Orion. Its st Michael, with his scales (scorpio) that kills the dragon/snake/devil, although st. Michael is Orion on his horse pegasus, like Belaphorn killing the Chimera. All these stories are exactly the same and related to our zodiac.
It is complicated to understand, especialy because the figures are named differently in our time, but the constellation figures are syncretised over time, given different names but the basis of the story and attributes of the figures is allways the same. The godess of the underworld, Ereshkigal and Innana but also Lamashtu and Sekmeth are all “proto medusas” as lion goddeses of the underworld and war.
Mythology and ancient gods and demons are not just made up figures, they have active places in te zodiac that is the basis for “circular stories”.
The region opposite of orion, “the underworld”, is were these characters are found. . Hercules, Ophiucius and Scorpio. If one looks closely one will find objects linked to Apollo, such as his Lyre, bow and arrows, the scorpion he send to kill Orion and other attributes close relevant to see he is there even though not named in our current zodiac. Ophiucius is “the son of Apollo” but this happened a lot, where the figure was replaced by a “son”. The current zodiac is like a puzzle, with remnants and clues left behind.
The hypothesis was formed that our zodiac was the basis fo mythology and also figures in stories about gods and religions had their origins in our rotating starry sky. The religion aspect is more explained in the authors Codex Dei article, found on this site.

Medusa
The author proposes that the “Hercules” constellation is wrongfully named. It is not Hercules here, it is Medusa, (or, the queen of the underworld Lilith in older cases.) One can see this on the temple of Atemis clearly due to her particular pose. Its “the kneeler” constellation. Hercules already has a presence in the zodiac as Orion. The bow and arrow symbolism belongs to Apollo, and also Artemis. Hercules is originally in the zodiac, but as Orion, not as the kneeler constellation.

In the above depiction of Gemini one can see the attributes of Apollo (Lyre/Bow and arrow) and Hercules (Club). They appear here together but are seperately found also as Orion and Ophiucus. Ophiucius (as the now son of Apollo) surroundings clearly have the Lyre (Vega) and the bow and Arrow symbolism which besides hunting, ( note Artemis and Orion, as “the Hunter and Huntress”, book by Fontenrose) also related to tools of War.
Hercules and Apollo, both “sons of the songod Zeus, but one immortal and other mortal. One “kills the other” as the sky turns.
They where not Gemini / twins, so to depict Gemini as Orion and Hercules is factually incorrect in relation to Mythology, but I understand why it was done. They were not twins but half-brothers who occupied the extremities next to Leo as the sungod. They where the sons of the sungod, the Dioscuri or Ashvinai.
It would be more correct to depict Artemis and Apollo there as Gemini. Something that was lost in time and replaced by the two males.
Artemis and Apollo are the original Gemini or twins in the zodiac
Apollo is linked to the sun, whilst Artemis is linked to the moon.

The Apollo belvedere statue, missing its bow but has the pose holding it. (or a spear like the god of war on the Ketesh Stele) Note the snake on the tree trunk. Yes, Apollo is our later “devil”, the god of the underworld. A god of War.
The deer, is from the babylonian zodiac, so was the panther accompanying a version of Potnia Theron.

It is confusing as the same figures appear in multiple places in the zodiac in different part of a story. So even though Apollo and Orion are in a story together with Artemis when he sends a scorpion to kill her, I believe Orion might also be the “Apollo version who fights Python”.
It complicated due to the fact that there are multiple stories based in the same circular zodiac, whilst similar, they have slightly different roles at time which overlap. On the statue of Artemis in the Vatican, note the moon sickle on her head. She is also accompanied by a dog and not by her usual deer. That “hunting dog”, could be a nudge to Cerberus.
The fish in the Potnia Theron image is the link to the eastern fish of pisces.

In most depictions Artemis has a stag, it’s the stag next to the eastern fish anunitum.
The origin of Cerberus. The 3 headed dog that guards the entrance to hell.
The apples of the hesperides are named Cerberus, in the zodiac drawing, the 3 headed hellhound, which can be seen close to Nergal on the plaque. However it has to be noted that the oldest depiction of Cerberus was a single headed dog and not in the bottom part of the zodiac where ophiucius is. It explains the dog next to Artemis in the Vatican statue, but also the cerberus constellation next to the Kneeler constellation.
Quote: “On one of the two earliest depictions (c. 590–580 BC), a Corinthian cup from Argos (see below), now lost, Cerberus was shown as a normal single-headed dog. The first appearance of a three-headed Cerberus occurs on a mid-sixth-century BC Laconian cup.” Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cerberus
The dog(s) that guard the entrance “to hell” is Canis Major and Canis Minor and is also thus explainable in a zodiac context.

The hindu god Yama also known as Kala (see resemblance to Kali), god of the underworld. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yama
Quote:
“Sharvara (Sanskrit: शार्वर, romanized: Śārvara), also rendered Shabala (Sanskrit: शबल, romanized: Śabala and Shyama (Sanskrit: श्याम, romanized: Śyāma) are two Hindu mythological watchdogs belonging to Yama. Sharvara is identified with the constellation Canis Major, and Shyama with Canis Minor; together they guard the gates of the underworld, the domain of Yama.”
“Sharvara and Shyama are described to be two ferocious, four-eyed dogs that guard the entrance to the palace of Yama. The dead are required to get past these dogs in order to be rendered judgement by their master.” Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sharvara_and_Shyama
These are Canis Major and Canis Minor. As the stars turn they guard the “entrance to the underworld”

The god of war and death, Odin with his two wolves, would be a good candidate for the norse version of the underworld god. Source image: https://mythus.fandom.com/wiki/Odin?file=Odin%2C_der_G%C3%B6ttervater.jpg
The author suspects that Medusa was derived from Ereshkigal, also called Ereskigal, or Allatu in Akkadian. She was the goddess in charge of the underworld, with possible links to Lillith the primordial she demon. Thus she is seen below plaque as the consort of thhe god of war or underworld Nergal. Both are in the same region of the Zodiac. Together with Scorpion, the roman “war standard” (Aquila stick) displayed twice also in queen of underworld hands. Eagle (Aquila) and Cerberus the hellhound. Hence its not Hercules, but the demon underworld woman who is there. This area of the zodiac has been asociated with Evil and War for a very long time, even since the time of Babylon and the Egyptians as can be seen later in the stele of Stele of Qetesh / Kadesh, Dynasty XIX (1292–1186 BC) where we also see war/death vs fertility, the two opposites Orion and Ophiucius with Virgo leo i the middle. More on that later.

Image: Nergal the god of the underworld and of war. Snakes, Scorpions, the roman standard (Eagle war staf) and Cerberus, with his queen of the underworld. He was Ophiucius. “Hercules” was his queen consort of the underworld as can be seen in the next images and the later prototype for Medusa. Hence it was her head, who was on war shields and as emblem on Athenas neck. Virgo was Athena most likely. And later Brittania and Durgha.

Medusa on the pediment of the Artemis temple in Corfu

Medusa in the zodiac, the “kneeler constellation”.
Lamashtu depicted as the kneeler, the proto Medusa with Sekmeth. The same area and same constellation in the zodiac.

Source: WIkipedia. She was on the temple of Artemis. She is asociated with Artemis, close to Apollo, as shown Medusa is “a version of the virgin artemis” The bow and arrows with Quiver of the Hercules constellation (which Hercules doesnt have, he has a club) could point that way. Other clues for Artemis/Medusa are the Pleiades were the seven sister-nymphs, companions of Artemis.
I found artemis, as the eastern fish, the queen of heaven, her deer is next to her. She is the virgin that was raped by poseidon and turned into medusa.
I allways wondered why there was a fish on this figure of Potnia Theron and why artemis resembled in some depictions potnia Theron.

But I figured it out. The swastikas are for the rotating sky, the two lions allways linked to the sky like they flank the sundisk in the aker symbol and in sumerian depictions of demon godess with her owl feet.
She is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Annunitum Linked to Innana. It allworks in a circular zodiac story like a stereo view master. Thats how the mythology should be read as a turning zodiac.

Anunitum, the queen of heaven, with panther and deer. Its all zodiac.

Image exempt of the babylonian zodiac showing exactly where the above image is based on. https://therealsamizdat.com/2015/04/23/nascence-of-the-babylonian-zodiac/

Artemis with her deer is a syncretised form of Anunitum with her deer. She is the virgin that in a circular zodiac story gets “raped by poseidon” “turns into Medusa” at the kneeler and also virgo at leo. Mythology zodiac stories are sometimes like a cartoon, same characters appear in multipe frame,to tell the story.
“Medusa is the virgin Artemis (eastern fish) who gets raped by poseidon (aquarius) then turns into medusa at the kneeler constellation and later gets beheaded by Perseus at orion where from her head sprouts Orion and Pegasus, her children.” – Stijn van den Hoven 2025

Note also how she is depicted in between two lions on the pediment, just like the consort of Nergal on the plaque. Note that the temple is from 500BCE and Ptolomy who named the kneeler the hercules constellation is from 200 CE. A 700 year difference.

It makes perfect sense for Medusa to beon that side of the zodiac in the underword as she appears beheaded on the other side at the perseus constellation.

Image Perseus and Medusa head on the other side of the zodiac. Source: https://s3.amazonaws.com/uls-blog/2018/03/Perseus-constellation.jpg
This appearance on the other side we see more often, for example in the Kali/Shiva appearance. Although here, Kali kills shiva and often shown with his head.
In Hinduism, Kali, was an aspect of Dhurga. She is the same as Medusa. The queen of the underworld, of death. Complete with her tongue sticking out as even Hindu deities are star related and intertwined with the western counterparts. Notably Durga/Brittiana/Athena/Virgo and Medusa/Kali

Kali and Medusa are both derived from the godess of the underwrold, war and death. Both with their characteristic tongue sticking out. Both Roma Mythology and Hindu religion, like most other religions has their origins in the stars and are actualy “related” to each other.

Athena as the godess of war, has the gorgon head in the form of an Aegis on her chest. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aegis)

Who is Ophiucius?
As stated before, Ophiucius is Nergal the god of the underworld. But, the stars were used as a template applied to different characters to tell different stories were the names for the constellations changed over time and in other cultures. Ophiucius is also asociated with Appolo. The current modern asociation of Ophiucius was Appolo’s son, Ophiucius, the healer.
In another star lore, the apposite image to Orion/Hercules, the most likely candidate for Ophiucius is Apollo. It was Appolo who fought Python. https://www.britannica.com/topic/Python-Greek-mythology Its also Apollo who had a Lyre, the nearby constellation. Therefor its definetely plausible that Ophicous was in fact, Apollo, besides being in earlier stories, the god of war, the underworld and war Nergal, being at the bottom part of the Zodiac.

Apollo is the halfbrother who kills the other one. Because they are zodiac opposites. Ophiucius and Hercules. In my view this is also the origin of the cain vs able story in the bible. The vase illustrates this celestial chase, ith apollo’s atributes of the bow and arrow, tools of hunting but also of war. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apollo#/media/File:Herakles_tripod_Louvre_F341.jpg

Lyra is also know as one of the two eagles. The swooping and raising eagle. Vulture Cadens or Aquila Cadens. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lyra
It takes little imagination to see the US eagle is derived from from the above. Eagle and Lyra. Note the clear naming presence in the NASA space program. Not coincidence. Gemini (Apollo and Orion), Apollo, Mercury (orion), Artemis, etc. etc.

It was Apollo who send a scorpion after Hercules/Orion.
Quote:
“In Greek Mythology, it comes from the story of Orion. He was the son of Poseidon and Euryale. He and Artemis were hunting partners. Artemis’s twin brother Apollo, was jealous of Orion, so he sent a giant scorpion which then stung and killed Orion. Artemis then Avenged Orion by killing the beast but in reward, for a deed done for Apollo, Apollo ascended it to the stars to become the constellation Scorpio.” Source: https://greek-myth.fandom.com/wiki/Scorpio#:~:text=Scorpio%2C%20in%20Greek%20Mythology%2C%20comes,then%20stung%20and%20killed%20Orion.
Quote:
“The Scorpion, according to Greek mythology, was sent by Apollo to attack the mighty hunter Orion. Apollo was jealous of the attention that Artemis showed to Orion. In a great battle, the Scorpion killed Orion, but Apollo felt shamed for his actions and helped Artemis hang Orion’s body prominently in the night sky. The Scorpion was also placed in the sky, opposite Orion. As Scorpius rises in the east, Orion sets in the west. This arrangement prevented a continuation of the battle among the stars.” Source: https://www.oklahoman.com/story/business/information-technology/2008/07/01/scorpius-shows-how-mythology-shaped-night-sky/61573428007/
Apollo and Hercules are also seen in other places in the Zodiac
They are the gemini Twins. One divine (apollo, of two gods) one mortal (Hercules only Zeus as father). Clearly depicted here together with appolos attributes Lyre and Bow ad Hercules/Orions attributes of his club.

So where is Appolos twin sister Artemis in the zodiac?
This is where it gets tricky. As there is no current imagery of Virgo as Artemis with her bow and arrow. If Appolo is Ophiucius sending a scorpion to Orion because of Orion being amored by his twin sister. The only candidate half way between Orion and Ophiucus is, Virgo. Who is Virgo. Who was she in the past? That is important for this theory. Was there ever a women with a bow and arrow? There was a godess of war. Inanna/Ishtar also depicted with her lion.

Ishtar Inanna

Brittania with her shield and trident also is in armor. We need to highlight an important aspect in the zodiac. Min, was asociated with Orion and fertility. Spring, the return of the land. His counterpart was asociated with war, the god of the underworld, Nergal. But its in between where we find Virgo/leo on one side and aquarius/Poseidon on the other side (remember Orion was a son of Poseidon)
Brittania is also Virgo. Her symbol is seen with the lion. Close to Leo. She is derived from Astarte in ancient times. And from there also Durga, shivas consort is derived. Seen next to each other, even though clearly different in style, the used identical symbolism is striking.

The above tablet is a zodiac depiction. Its Orion as the god Min on the left, Virgo in the middle and the god of war or underworld on the right as Orions opposite. He wears the goat on his head. Another version of this same story of two opposites Orion vs Ophiucus is found in the Narmer treasure. But again nobody made the connection of king scorpio in relation to Narmer. They are not seperate finds, but in fact the ancient zodiacal pair and the whole scene tells about Orion defeating King Scorpio. A whole writeup why Narmer (and Min) is Orion can be found in the Codex Dei article. I would need to look at the macehead further but suspect its a globe presentation of the zodiac of the sky. If one is looking for proof of astronomy in the ancient world, this might as well be it.
I have been looking for X. Hence it has been blank in the images. But found her later as Anunitum as the godess of war and queen of heaven. The two cosmic pairs the war/dead and fertility/life. The central image of the ketesh stele is the virgin Virgo at Leo AND the godess of war at pisces eastern fish godess of heaven. Its like the tryptich image / doors where the central door is both the spring and autum equinox. two aspect of the same coin. Its inanna/Ishtar, with her sister Ereshkigal at the Kneeler constellation.

Image: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/5/5c/Ishtar_on_an_Akkadian_seal.jpg

Narmer and King Scorpio could be a precursor version of Osiris vs Seth, Min vs God of War or, Orion vs apollo, God vs the devil and even Cain vs Able. Agriculture vs Pastoralism based on the season. Or fertility vs war. A first marker on the two opposite figures in the sky marking the seasons. The godess on the half way mark had both aspects, being sexual/fertility and war attributes, a mix of both.
Its interesting to note that if we accept that the US eagle is a version of Lyra, it also splits the zodiac perfectly in a war/fertility concept. It illustrates the same concept. Arrows in one talon and Leaves or fertility in the other. The two forces of nature. Creation and destruction if you can say so.
There is one corner of the zodiac that is left out. Poseidon.
Poseidon and Zeus born are sons from kronos (time), are the same zodiacal figures as Enki and Enlil born from Anu. Where we have a central skygod, Anu or Kronos, representing time itself. Enki being the watergod of the two brothers and Enlil the god of storms, which is Zeus / Bootes.

Now we are coming to another story that has never been understood. How was Medusa created? Medusa was a virgin who was raped in the temple of Athena by Poseidon. Remember Orion was a son of Poseidon. Below vase shows this moment. Of Poseidon advancing on the virgin that eventualy creates Medusa. It must be noted that Virgo and Poseidon are zodiac opposites. If we accept a circular story and it all being tied to the zodiac and not “just mythology”.
Its just that Mythologu stories were never understood in a rotating zodiac context but it make 100% perfect sense according to the 4 corners of the zodiac with key events aligning perfectly with the 4 corners being:
- the virgin opposite Poseidon, note both later represented with a trident (Britania, Durga) like Poseidon.
- The presence of Poseidon, advancing the virgin, who he rapes.
- The creation and existence of Medusa as the Kneeler in the underworld / war /evil area of the zodiac.
- The beheading of Medusa exactly opposite in the zodiac by Perseus. From her head there spoutes Chrysoar and Pegasus. Orion and Pegasus respectively, in the right places of the zodiac.
It makes perfect sense for Medusa to be on the pediment of temple of Artemis of Corfu. As Medusa, in astronomical terms, is linked to Medusa in a circular zodiac. She is most likely the virgin that Poseidon raped in the temple of Athena. Although that specifics is no where written and based on a zodiac interpretation of mythology.

Above is just the story of Medusa. The story of Appolo, orion as son of Poseidon and Artemis with the scorpion can be told in a similar matter.

The last mythological example (and there are probably a few more that can be explained as I have) is the story of the Minotaur or Crete. The author only understood it when he learned about the Egyptian god Min and the realized the Minotaur mythology is also related to the stars. It is the MIN-O-TAURUS. Orion combined with the bull that makes the bull headed man. The labyrinth is a reference to the sky, time itself, life, with its twist and turns as also can be seen in cathedrals in europe in relation to the cross. The bullman as such has later evil conotations after Dante. King Minos of Crete, son of Europa and Zeus, brother to Rhadamanthus, commanded Daedalus to construct the Labyrinth to contain the Minotaur. After his death, King Minos took a position as one of the judges in Hades (Dante features him in the Purgatorio and the Inferno).

The queen of Crete giving birth to the minotaur after the king didnt sacrifice his bull to Poseidon he made the bull impregnate his queen to give birth to the minotaur. There are other demon related links to the bullman in the form of Moloch and The brazen bull, also known as the bronze bull, Sicilian bull, or bull of Phalaris, a torture / execution machine. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brazen_bull. In the end, by the passing of time we are all sacrificied to the bull (Taurus) in a way. It was for this reason also that the golden calf was made. In below painting, clearly in the sky. Source: The Worship of the Golden Calf by Filippino Lippi (1457–1504) A golden calf, or a brazen bull (Brass) are quite close together in appearance.

A modern version of prominent bull symbology is found in the wallstreet statue.

Killing the bull has been the task of many heroes in the past, from Gilgamesh slaying the bull of heaven, to Theseus the minotaur, to Mithras in his bullslaying scence. All of these are celestial in nature.
